Hardcover navy blue cloth with gilt, no dust jacket as issued. A historical account of the Sioux uprising of 1862-3 in southern Minnesota and nearby Dakota Territory. Published as part of the Lakeside Press Centennial series of the Civil War. The author was a teacher at a mission school in a Sioux village. The book was originally published in 1863.
