The text recounts a wonderful story of a papermaker in the 1860s who found he was running out of rags to make his brown paper. He hit on the idea of importing mummies from Egypt and hiring women to strip them of the coverings and the rags encasing them. Unfortunately the handling of the rags infected the women with a disease which became an epidemic and caused the American government to pass a law that all imported rags must be disinfected.
