Kertesz' first book to be published in the U.S. Produced with the assistance of photo historian Peter Pollock and legendary graphic designer and photographer Alexey Brodovitch. With their help this book has become a high spot of 20th century photography books and a consensus pick on all of the "best of lists.' An about fair copy in cloth boards with the front and rear endpapers missing, a long gift inscription to the half title page and the front panel of the dust jacket affixed to the front board. In very good condition, clean and unmarked, spots of foxing at page edges and front and back end pages, cream cloth boards are without wear with text unfaded, dust jacket present, separated at spine seam, chipped at front panel and spine with about 1/3 of spine remaining, wear at edges.

There are two 3/4" red residue streaks on the edges of the panels. Otherwise a near fine, bright copy. A well preserved copy of a very important and very much sought after title in the oeuvre of 20th century photography books and no doubt the most sought after title by photographer, Andre Kertesz.
