Paris: Societe D'edition "Le Livre", 1927. Full blue morocco with gilt-lettered spine, blue silk endpapers. Original lettered and color decorated wrappers and spine bound in. Contained in 1/4 blue morocco chemise, spine faded and cracked, and plain blue sil covered slipcase. Fine copy of a pretty book. With 61 plates colored in pochoir by Jean Saudé, master colorist. Of a total edition of 230 copies, this is one of only five hors commerce copies with an additional hors texte suite in pochoir with gilt and silver accents of the fourteen illlustrations from the first volume of "L'Oiseau Bleu" published in 1925. Lepape's costume and sets for Maeterlinck's Blue Bird perfectly reflect the taste of his times, the chic style of the modernist 1920s in fashion, theater and illustration.
