London: T. AND J. ALLMAN, 1818. 2nd Edition. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. SECOND EDITION 1818. Early leather spine and corners with marbled boards, marbled EPs. NOT Ex-library. Rubbed spine edges with loss of surface coating, solid binding, foxing on map and on title page, minor foxing on several other pages but most pages have no foxing, complete with map and all text pages, previous owner name penned to first preliminary blank page otherwise no owner marks or writing on any pages. From the collection of William E. Davis with his signature and date 1959 on the first blank preliminary page. Copied from the internet: "William E. Davies (1917-1990) was a USGS (United States Geological Survey) geologist, polar explorer, and recipient of the Antarctic Medal from US Congress. His work took him to Greenland, the Appalachian Mountains of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia, and in Antarctica - where the Davies Escarpment is named after him. He authored more than 200 scientific and research titles." The book measures 227mm tall x 145mm and has 225 pages, folding map, several head of chapter b/w illustrations. PHOTOS ARE OF THE BOOK BEING OFFERED.
