First Edition. Edited by Isaac de Beausobre [1659-1738]. Written under the prince's supervision by a senior officer in his service, these posthumously published memoirs document the successful military campaigns conducted by Frederick Hendrik in the Low Countries against the Spaniards from 1621 to 1646, including the sieges and captures of Bois-le-Duc (1629), Maestricht (1632), Breda (1637), and Sas van Ghent (1644). Previous owners neat ink name written on the blank front free endpaper and some browning to the blank endpapers otherwise this is a tight, bright, and clean copy. Black coated endpapers with no cracking at all. Book feels firm and square. Publishers deep red cloth, spine and front board lettered in gilt. Spine with just a hint of fading but overall a much better copy than usually found. 5000 copies published 12th October 1900.

Original Dutch Edition. 256 p.p., with 10 plates of in-text engravings including title page depecting scenes of naval battles. Lacks folding map and additional folding engraving. Chip to top right corner of front board. Boards rubbed, edges slightly bumped. Faded handwriting mark on front board. Previous bookseller label on front pastedown endpaper. A small tear to p. 85, but engraving unaffected. Damp stains to some pages, but otherwise in very good condition. This book chronicles the account of Second Anglo-Dutch Wars fought by the Dutch Republic and England during the period of 1664-1667 that ended in a peace treaty signed in the Dutch city of Breda.
