Hardback bound in blue cloth with black titles, cloth is rubbed at corners, preliminary pages have been excised (possibly during the First World War?), neat inscription on the rear endpaper (list of suppliers). No half-title or title page, all text and plates still present. 40 pages + 40 plates, engravings in the text. No printed date, but probably around 1885 .

Folio, 2 leaves of letterpress, 24 plates in colour lithography by Eschebach & Schaefer, orig. half-leather portfolio, spine torn covers rubbed, title mounted on and inside front cover. Includes designs by C.G. Aeckerlein of Leipzig, G. Heuser of Berlin, Joseph Zaehnsdorf in London. This extremely rare work was published in four parts. This copy has been collated against Zaehnsdorf's own which is in the Bernard Middleton collection. Provenance: W.H. Langerveld, Dutch bookbinder (label on front); Bernard H. Breslauer.
