London: Printed for T. Cadell and W. Davies; [and various others], 1811. A New Edition" Reprint. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo. This is Volumes 3, 4, 5, and 6 ONLY of a 6 volume set. (Missing Volumes 1 and 2). Translated into English from the Latin original edition of 1726 by Archibald MacLaine. All four books are a matching half light brown leather and light brown textured publisher's cloth. Hubbed spines bear five raised bands with gilt ornamentation and red leather labels stamped with gilt lettering. Speckled edges. Includes notes, chronological tables, and an appendix. Index within Volume VI. On a shelf, these four books span 4.75 inches.<br><br>Volume III is 468 pages.<br>Volume IV is 512 pages.<br>Volume V is 517 pages.<br>Volume VI is 547 pages.<br><br>ABOUT THE AUTHOR: John Lawrence Mosheim (1693-1755) was a German Lutheran church historian, Chancellor of The University of Gottingen, and also held the title of President of the German Society. His exegetical writings, characterized by learning and good sense, and his sermons showed considerable elegance and mastery of style. His Ecclesiastical History provided a crucial source for Edward Gibbon's decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, and Gibbon borrowed many of Mosheim's arguments. (Wikipedia). <br><br>CONDITION: Ex-library with book plates and small stamps inside. Moderate external wear, all hinges are strong and bindings are quite sound. Large patch of rub-through wear on the back board of Volume III. Leaves have only lightly toned with foxing predominantly within endpapers. Unmarked except for library annotation.
