About This Item

New York City, NY: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2010. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. New York City, NY: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2010. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 360 pages. The author's second novel. Now considered a contemporary classic. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Andre Aciman's "Eight White Nights". His follow-up novel to his breakthrough debut, "Call Me By Your Name" (2007) : NOT a sequel (which would finally come to pass in 2019 as "Find Me"), but a necessary detour for the only serious American writer of romantic love of our time, and regarded by Aciman himself as his best book. Andre Aciman's second novel is about a more (seemingly) conventional love affair, that between a man and a woman, presented in a most unconventional manner: A man meets a woman at a Christmas Night party. Over the next seven days, they meet each evening at the same cinema house, "culminating in a final scene on New Year's Eve charged with magic and the promise of renewal" (Publisher's blurb). "Aciman has the ability to make the finest, the tiniest, and most convincing distinctions between moods, responses, and registers. Everything is watched as it shifts and glitters" (Colm Toibin). Emotionally and sensually, that's what time is, moods and registers that shift, gleam, and glitter. If the passage of time is the celebrated subject of Proust, Aciman's literary mentor, it is finally the subject of Aciman's first and second novels too, as seen from the different angles of a prism: "Call Me By Your Name" takes place over several decades (time-as-memory) whereas, as its title suggests, "Eight White Nights" happens over several consecutive nights (time-as-event). In the former, time becomes "place"; in the latter, time remains pure, fleeting "moment". An absolute "must-have" title for Andre Aciman collectors. This title is a contemporary classic. This is one of few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws, are subsequent printings, or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce copy thus. Andre Aciman's "Call Me By Your Name" is regarded as a classic by Colm Toibin. One of the greatest writers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ANDRE ACIMAN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG).
