Bound in publisher's quarter vellum with gilt lettering to spine, purple linen boards separated by a vertical gilt rule, gilt top edge. Spine lightly browned and dusty, covers and corners have edge wear with very slight loss of linen, inner paper hinge cracked, limitation page foxed, rear free endpaper foxed, occasional very light foxing to margins otherwise a very good copy. W.H. Reed composer and leader of the London Symphony for 23 years was a long standing friend of Sir Edward Elgar, author of Elgar As I Knew Him (1936), in which he goes into great detail about the genesis of the Violin Concerto in B minor. Sir Adrian Cedric Boult, famous conductor, Sir Landon Ronald, conductor and composer was also closely associated with the music of Edward Elgar but since they both worked for the same record company, Ronald only recorded one of Elgar's works, the "Coronation March", on 7 March 1935, a year after Elgar's death. He was the pianist in the first performance of Elgar's Violin Sonata in E minor in 1919, with W.H. Reed the violinist.
