About This Item

New York: Wilkinson Publishing Co. Ltd, 1952. Illustrated by b/w photographs (Karsh cover; Ewing most months). First edition. Perfect bound top flip with b/w cover of young Queen Elizabeth. 4to. pp. [26]. Very Good. Nick to queen's forehead and chipped at top binding, cover scored slightly smaller that months, internally near fine, no writing or ownership. This is also known as a "Leap Year" calendar as 1/1 is always a Thursday (last leap year was 2015, next is 2026). Karsh was considered one of the greatest portrait photographers of the 20th century by Time Magazine and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Churchill, Kennedy, Einstein, Queen Elizabeth). Galloway was Collier's photographic Editor and opened the Ewing Galloway Agency in New York in 1920 with many world wide offices to follow. Nicely arranged top to bottom with 2/3 as photo and 1/3 as center calendar with quotations on each side. Changing of the Guard (Buckinham); Lynmouth and Lynton, Devonshire; Worcester Cathedral; Procession of the Order of the Garter; Holford Village, Somerset; Cathedral Town of Ely of the Rive Guse (pictured); Clovelly, Devonshire; Wells Cathedral and moat around the Bishop's Palace; Stanton Village, Gloucestershire; Dorchester; Glastonbury Abbey; Westminster Abbey. The Kresge Art Museum had an exhibit of his photographs in 2007..
