London: Folio Society, 1985. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine Slipcase. FINE. "A distinctive feature of Folio Society books is their presentation in slipcases with the subtle inward curve at the opening. Rich variety, strength, and sophistication are key features of the binding. Book spines are sewn to enable them to lie flat. The wood- and acid-free papers are produced by a small number of European mills, which produce the highest quality papers with absolute consistency. Both traditional and contemporary typefaces are employed in the typography, always exemplifying legibility and elegance. All Folio Society titles contain illustrations from the finest artists, almost all commissioned fresh for our editions. Each font and artistic style is carefully chosen to suit the character of the individual book. Every resource is employed to make a Folio book last for generations." Gilt lettering debossed to black rectangle on spine of taupe-colored, cloth-covered boards. Black and white paste-on illustration on front board. Pictorial slipcase near fine. Mild edgewear to top and bottom case. 144 pp with list of illustrations. A look into landscape artist, John Constable's (1776 -- 1837) life and work. "My limited aim has been to enable the reader of this brief book to savour Constable's England," (preface).
