John Dryden, a 17th-century English author, was known for his famous translations of Greek classics as well as his masterpiece 'Tyrannick Love'. This play, first published in 1670, tells the story of Saint Catherine of Alexandria's martyrdom and the reign of Emperor Maximinus. Alexandria refused Maximinus's erotic advances and was ultimately put to death for it. Dryden tells this story in this play.

UNDER A PHOTO OF HIM, JOHN FOWLES AND THE DIRECTOR OF THE FILM KAREL REISZ. Also laid in is the original British program for "The Homecoming" that was first done in 1965 by the Royal Shakespeare Company + a playbill from the most recent Broadway revial. Also laid in the book is a promo postcard for two revivals of his plays The Birthday Party and The Homecoming. And is also a 4pg. foldover brochure for the film version of The Homecoming. Also laid in is a nice large foldout announcement for the recent revival of "Betrayal" that starred Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz.

The book is fine. The price-clipped dust jacket has minor wear at the head of the spine and at the corners of the front flap fold. A stunning copy of this oversize volume, full of still in color and black and white of Fellini's films. The copy has an interesting associative inscription - from Howard Zief, who was a film director from the 1970s through the 1990s; (his most notable films were Private Benjamin and House Calls). Inscribed to Edward Warschilka, who was the editor of House Calls.
