Marquina was a Mexican architect and archaeologist. Although his first projects was working on the excavations of the Templo Mayor in the Zocalo in Mexico City, his first major archaeological research project was a study on the population of the Valley of Teotihuacan. He later participated in research on the civilizations of Tenayuca, Chichen Itza, and Uxmal. This publication, officially issued for the Congress, does not confine itself to the political boundaries of Mexico; it includes related remains in the United States and Central America.
