Si laurea in architettura nel 1957 ed apre a Roma uno studio di progettazione dove già elabora una sua personale poetica per quanto riguarda la creazione e produzione di mobili: pensa ad un mobile destinato ad avere una vita materiale ed espressiva più duratura, la cui complessa concezione esclude la possibilità di una produzione in serie. Apre tra il '63 e il '63 "L'Officina11" in collaborazione con l'artista Ugo Sterpini. I due realizzano, negli anni, 27 mobili-scultura, pezzi unici che verranno spesso esposti in musei e gallerie in tutto il mondo negli anni successivi. Nell'Ottobre del 1962 conosce a Parigi Andrè Breton. Con il mondo surrealista De Sanctis manterrà sempre un proficuo rapporto, condividendo idee, poetica, gusto espressivo.
