Original quarter leather with blue cloth binding, titles & Royal crest in gilt on front cover & emblem on back cover. All parts show shelf wear, particularly at corners/edges/spine. All absent outer spine. Upper edge gilt. Occasional foxing/marks throughout, particularly at front of parts II & III. Inner books generally in good condition for their age. Part I (1867), scrape to front cover, xviii + 43pp with 78 manuscripts illustrated on 41 plates. Part II (1870), Xxii + 68pp, 84 facsimiles, Part III (1871), Xvi + 108 facsimiles & accompanying text. This set covers all the major events in Scotland's history from 900 AD, royal marriages, deaths, battles, letters, charters etc to the Treaty of Union (1706). A translation & the original text of the manuscripts is shown alongside the facsimiles. Ex reference library with minimal markings, presentation bookplate on front pastedowns & decorative bookplate on rear pastedowns, no other library markings. ***A substantial set & postage will be charged at cost***
