London: Longmans, Green & Co.,, 1889-1910. A landmark in the presentation of traditional tales First editions, first impressions, a complete set of Lang's beautifully produced Fairy Book series, which is uncommon complete in collectible condition. Unprecedented in the international scope of its sources, it gave many fairy tales their first appearance in English. The books proved immediately successful and helped salvage some of the cultural wealth of international folklore by preserving it in print. Lang takes the opportunity in the final book's preface to credit his wife with their authorship once again: "The fairy books have been almost wholly the work of Mrs. Lang, who has… Read More

St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British. Condition: Corners bumped and rubbed, shelf wear, hinges and spine heal moderately rubbed, previous owner's name on front end paper else a very good copy.
