Tallahassee, Florida:: Small Craft Advisory Press,, 2019.. Edition of 32. 15 x 9 x 4 inches with enclosure. Letterpress printing. Materials: dyed wax paper, leather. Unique concertina binding. Laid in lidded oblong box. Numbered. . Small Craft Advisory Press: "Fashioning is the second book collaboration between Denise Bookwalter and Lee Emma Running. Their first artists' book, Lining, investigated the intimate relationship of textiles next to the skin. In 'Fashioning' the artists continue their work with their intimate relationship with clothing. Clothing retains the story of the wearer. In Fashioning the artists capture their relationship with clothing by making rubbings of embellishments found on personally significant garments. The drawings directly capture a moment in the life of the textile. The textile contains its own evidence of the hands that made it and the bodies that wore it. Each of the rubbings were transferred to letterpress printing plates, printed in white, resit dyed, and waxed to create a book structure that becomes a book the reader wears. Fashioning is a tactile experience embedded in cloth and paper." To read the book put your hands into the cover handles and open your arms.

Description:
California:: Cheri Gaulke.. Edition of 100. A pouch made of multi-colored Balinese sarongs contains an artists' book whose design is inspired by traditional palm-leaf books. Indonesian teak covers are held together by a central red cord and batiked wooden beads. Digitally printed on an Epson Stylus Photo 2200 with archival inks and Epson watercolor paper in an edition of 100. Each pouch is unique as each has its own batik design and cloth. Each book is signed and numbered. A true story. One lesbian trying to get pregnant; one gay man dying of AIDS. Life; death. The struggle to make life; the struggle to hold on to life. The ironies compound and cancel each other, until what is left are the dignity of struggle and sanctity of possibility. "Mark began dying of AIDS long before I began trying to conceive, both of us racing against the inevitability of time" begins the text, which tells the story of a journey between birth and death and of a magical trip to Bali. The imagery… Read More

Freeport, Maine:: Rebecca Goodale,, 2022.. One-of-a-Kind. 20" in diameter circle book with cotton braids. Ink on handmade paper. Wall hung. Signed by the artist. Rebecca Goodale: "Lilith was created from the same clay as Adam. She understood herself to be his equal and when she refused to be subservient, she was banished from Eden and restricted to haunting the night. In Isaiah she is referred to as the night-demon accompanied by the wildcat and hyena (or possibly a jackal). I looked at images of sixth century incantation bowls that depicted Lilith. The imagery on those bowls was extraordinary and I decided to create a set of circle books about Lilith in the dark. If someone was limited to a life of darkness, then why wouldn't they consider any of these options- astronomer, poet, mermaid, housecleaner, or night-demon?" Goodale was invited to participate in an exhibition at the Maine Jewish Museum about Women's Stories from the Bible. The Lilith books were created… Read More
