Sheets from the first edition bound in blue cloth with paper label on spine. Second state of the first edition. A near fine copy lacking the dust jacket. Minor edge wear, faint stains to cover, and light toning to page edges.

More prominent to text block edges and reverse of covers. Light cracking to gutters but binding remains firm. Paper covers have light edge-wear and corner curling with noticeable tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has minor splitting, rolling and creasing.

The first of three plays written by Dos Passos, The Garbage Man makes its New York City premiere in Greenwich Village at the Cherry Lane Playhouse. A flop, it runs for only eighteen performances. The experimental play depicts America's unraveling during the 1920s as its industrial progress outpaces its spiritual and intellectual growth.
