The author, Georg Heinrich Loskiel (1740-1814), was a Moravian minister from Latvia who came to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in 1801 to head the Moravian community. This collection of daily spiritual meditations was published in Budissin (now Bautzen, Ger.) shortly before he left Europe for the United States. The author is Dr. Kenneth A. Kitchen, Reader in Egyptian & Coptic in the School of Archaeology & Oriental Studies at the University of Liverpool. He reviews Professor Bright's "History of Israel" which was extensively revised in 1972. Kenneth Kitchen states that John Bright's work is the standard of its kind and far outstrips in quality, balance, and sanity other works in the field.
