[Technically the first US] before the 53 page 15cm Philadelphia Moser imprint edition. c.1813. Printed and decorated green cloth, cord sewn with rear advertisement: "Printing in its various branches executed with neatness and accuracy by John Eliot, No. 5 Court Street, Boston". 14cm. pp. 11-34, 39-44 [of 72]. Poor. Literally a fragment of a fragment (366/950 lines)...with some pages detached, small ink checks and a bracket on p.21 in "That harbinger of fate and gloom" stanza, two checks on p. 24 and a pen note p.26 in the scorpion footnote. Still a curious item in its lacking state. The 1st edition (6/5/1813) had 685 lines, the 2nd had 816, 3rd with 950, 5th with 1215, to the 7th and 8th of 1334 lines, and all in one year. The incredible swelling poem with vampires, scorpions, adultery with Christian and Muslim slants on death, love and sex. Giaour is Turkish for infidel or nonbeliever..
