London: Jonathan Cape. 1965 [actually issued late 1964]. [Thriller] An UNCORRECTED PROOF copy of the first edition. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.221; [3], blank. Printed green wraps. One of just 596 copies. A few light marks, owner name, some trivial handling. Near fine, housed in custom-made green leather-spined clamshell box. Ian Fleming wrote one James Bond novel each winter in his Jamaican retreat 'Goldeneye' from 1953-1964. This title, The Man with the Golden Gun, was written during the 63/64 winter months and published posthumously by Cape as the last full-length Bond novel; the later 'Octopussy' being short stories. Basis for the 1974 movie starring Roger Moore as Bond and (Fleming's cousin) Christopher Lee as villain Francisco Scaramanga who, in the novel, is nicknamed "Pistols" Scaramanga. Gilbert A13a.
