Slightly rubbed corners and spine extremities without tears or exposure, text block edges typically somewhat toned by age, faint stray mark to cloth on upper spine panel, which shows just the slightest toning. Firm binding, clean interior, hinges fully intact. Slight diagonal creasing to title page. 1037 pp. First edition, first printing, "Published May, 1936." on copyright page with no mention of subsequent printings. Signed by author on front flyleaf in vintage blue fountain pen, full signature, no inscription or date. Color illus. dust jacket is brand-new facsimile, correctly matched to this printing with "Macmillan Spring Novels" (not including this title) on the rear panel. Photographs available upon request. Notably well preserved copy would probably be evaluated as Near Fine in many estimates, but we prefer to err on the conservative side..
