Oblong 8vo, handsome crimson crushed levant morocco by Morrell, gilt-tooled spine; both covers with a gilt double fillet border and corner ornament of hearts, cupid's bows and arrows and leafy sprays; front cover gilt-;ettered. Marbled paste-downs and endpapers, inner dentelles gilt. In custom red cloth clamshell box.. Binding in fine condition. Armorial bookplate of Sir William A. H. Bass, noted race-horse owner and leather bookplate of Cortland Bishop . Color lithograph from original wrapper laid down and mounted, repeating the color lithograph frontispiece. Foxing to frontispiece depicting pursuit of eloping couple. Prose and verse printed on pink paper. Gretna Green is a village in Scotland famous for run-away weddings, following the old coaching route from London to Edinburgh.
