This is a great condition bound volume of "HARPER'S WEEKLY - A Journal of Civilization" for the entire year of 1866 (Volume 10). There are 52 issues in all beginning with January 6 and ending with December 29 - a complete run of all 52 issues for the year. The highlight of the volume is the November 3rd issue, which features a RARE EARLY BASEBALL team photo of "the 'Atlantic' Base-Ball Club of Brooklyn and "the 'Athletic' of Philadelphia." The December 29 issue contains a wonderful 2-page spread of SANTA CLAUS vignettes by Thomas Nast. There are also 2-page engravings of ABRAHAM LINCOLN and of RECONSTRUCTION (by Thomas Nast). Also included are numerous post-CIVIL WAR articles and engravings. Three-quarter leather binding with marbled covers and marbled end papers. Oversized - the volume measures 16" tall x 11 1/2" wide x 2 1/4" thick. Scarcely found in this condition.
Condition:
There is a 3" tear at the bottom-right edge of the spine; wear to the corners. The volume is tightly bound with no cracks and no loose pages. The interior is in great condition - mostly clean pages with only a few random stains found; the primary condition issue to the pages is that there are occasional tears at the outer edges (larger 4" tear on the front cover of Jan 13 that has been repaired with clear tape). Some of the front covers have an "X" written in pencil at the top-right corner. Library bookplate affixed to the front pastedown. Some front covers have a small library ink stamp at the bottom edge. Overall the volume is in very good condition.
