About This Item

Amsterdam: Jan Roman Amsterdam: Jan Roman (1729?-1732?). Folio, handsome modern binding of marbled paper-covered boards with gilt-lettered black leather cover label. An attractive clean copy. Two parts in one volume. Etched vignette on title page, etched headpiece on dedication leaf, two frontispieces, folding map and 100 engraved views on fifty leaves with brief descriptions. Scarce documentation of Dutch architecture and gardens of the late 17th and early 18th centuries with plans and views of town and country houses in Kennermerland, a fashionable country district north of Haarlem. The houses are in Dutch Regency style and the gardens, while still symmetrical, show natural elements superseding the formal. References: Berlin Catalogue 2246. Millard Architectural Collection, Northern European Books, 9. . Marbled Paper Boards. Fine. Folio.
