Description:
Fine minus, unread book that is lightly crimped at top of spine, in a Fine minus jacket with a very light scratch and slight rubbing to back panel. This was a cheaply produced book and is fairly scarce in such nice condition. This novel was originally thought to be Carter’s autobiographically story of being an orphan raised by his Cherokee Indian grandparents. Carter claimed to be part Cherokee and was thought to be a cowboy drifter. However, he fooled his publisher and most of his readers with his fictional account. Carter was actually living a double life and had been an avid segregationist and a speech writer for Alabama Governor George Wallace.  The 1992 story, The Real Education of Little Tree (published in Texas Monthly), covers the history of Carter (who was actually Asa Earl Carter) and his fake autobiography – a fascinating story that is stranger than fiction.

St. Paul, Minnesota:: Strong Silent Type Press,, 2021.. Edition of 15. 14 x 19.5"; 26 pages including pastedowns. Printed in relief from laser cut blocks. Verdana font. Annigoni paper. Drum leaf binding. Bound in illustrated boards with cloth spine. Signed and numbered by the artist. Fred Hagstrom: "'Pipeline' documents the ongoing protests against the construction of the Enbridge Line 3 oil pipeline that will take tar sands oil from Canada to Superior Wisconsin. It is actually a new line along a new route, leaving the old pipeline in the ground. The line crosses land that is held by tribes without honoring treaty rights. It is seen as a threat to the sources of water in northern Minnesota, including the Mississippi and numerous wetlands and streams in the Lake Superior watershed. Tribes are also concerned about the effects of possible spills on wild rice beds. The oil from this line will greatly add to emissions."

"In this book, real life photos are used to help young people feel more comfortable with interacting with other children and making new friends. A Note From Fred Rogers: A child's first visit with a pediatrician usually comes soon after birth. It may be months or even years later, though, that a child first shows fear about going to see a doctor. The worry of an injection or some other unfamiliar medical procedure can trigger that fear. It can also appear because another family member may be feeling medical anxieties. And, of course, new body awareness and needs for privacy develop naturally in children's early years, so all these feelings can make it very hard for them to let doctors investigate the workings of… Read More
