New York, New York: Henry Holt and Company. Very Good with No Dust Jacket as issued. 1879. First Edition: First Printing. Hard Cover. 010087: Boards now protected by a new Brodart Archival Mylar Cover. Boards are dark maroon cloth with several black embossed line borders and designed on front and back, gilt lettering on the spine, plus a very bright ornate gilt design of a lion and unicorn in the center of the front board. Book has original owner's name (D. H. Sumner, Waukesha, Wis) and date (July 10, 1897) inscribed on front flyleaf. Also has Notary Public embossed stamp of this owner (D. H. Sumner) on title page. Otherwise, boards and pages are clean, unmarked (no other marks or names found), bright, tightly bound and sharp cornered (except for very small edge cut at bottom of spine). Scarce, Out Of Print, Book.: 5.5 x 8.5 in.: 550 pages .

Both volumes in comparable condition, with spine ends and corners a bit worn and spines slightly dulled, and with clean, tight interiors.. Vol. II has a small dent on the back board and its frong hinge is cracking at endpapers, though not loose. A good-looking set.
