This small (4.5 in. x 2.75 in.) volume is over 180 years old and is in excellent condition. Quarter bound in green leather and marbled paper. The spine is embossed with gilt scrollwork, title and author. The hinge is tight and the pages slightly yellowed with age, but still in fine, readable condition. Red Silk bookmark is still attached and faded only on the surface outside the book. No internal markings, bookplates or tears to pages. A remarkably preserved book for its age! Hardcover. 419 pp. Contains Stein's experimental writing style with an introduction by Sherwood Anderson. No dust jacket. Binding has minor chipping and bumping on corners. edges and on head of spine along with some light soiling. Hinge is intact but slightly loose through the first 6-8 pages of the book. Ink name and date on FFEP. Pages are clean and unmarked. No tears!

This 160 year-old book is in very good condition considering its age. Binding is soiled, scuffed and gilt titles are faded. Corners and spine ends are bumped. Hinges are tight and pages somewhat browned with age with occasional foxing, especially on end papers. Twelve black and white engravings throughout. The early days of New York's stock market is described with all its characters, swindlers, winners and losers playing their part.

This gorgeous book is a first edition of the combined titles, "Now We Are Six" and "When We Were Very Young" printed in 1932. Spine ends lightly rubbed, very minor bumping to corners and some slight soiling to boards and sunning to spine. No internal markings or dedications. This beautifully preserved book is in Near Fine condition. Boards, titles and decorative design are all bright and clear with no fading or chipping. Pages are clean and hinge is tight. Minor bumps to head and foot of spine. End papers are slightly soiled and original owner's name is in pencil on FFEP. There are very minor scuffs to the front cover pictorial pastedown.
The author was a noted stage and screen actress of her day as well as an author and a Harper's correspondent in World War I. She was married to Walter Hale, an artist, illustrator and actor who could have been the illustrator of this book as he illustrated many other books for Louise. Priced to sell! There is only one other 1st Edition of this title for sale on the web at a much higher price.
