Thomas Fuller was a 17th-century English historian who particularly notable for his historical accounts of English worthies and the Church of England. In 1662, Fuller's "Worthies of England" was published, a book which would become one of the most iconic books of English history even into the 19th-century. This book discusses the physical boundaries of English towns and counties, notable figures and martyrs, antiquities, buildings: cathedrals, and general observations.

In 1811, John Nichols reissued Fuller's masterpiece, updating the landscape of each of the British communities.
