Book shows small Lawrence Clark Powell book sticker at front pastedown, Powell's signature at front endpaper, sheet containing the book when it came from Powell's library, picture of O'Connor and another of what must be his wife, along with Knopf publicity flyer promoting the book. 302 pages with illustrations by Irving Boker. Still a pleasing copy of this autobiographical work from the noted author and sportsman with the interesting Lawrence Clark Powell connection.

Married to an officer of the 2nd Cavalry in 1866, Sargent relates to experiences at Fort Bidwell, Fort Walla Walla, to Arizona. Four years at Fort Huachuca, Fort Bowie, to Fort Logan, Colorado and at Fort Wingate. .
