New York: Harper and Brothers, 1848 (title page) issued in two parts in wrappers dated 1849, printed price 37 1/2 cents. 332 pp. + 28 pp. publisher's advertisements, some unopened. 8vo. Included notes on navigation, nautical vocabulary, and oddly, the Shakespeare authorship controversy. This wrapper edition likely constitutes a second issue. Bound in half blue gilt-ruled morocco with raised bands, spine ornaments, blue marbled paper covered boards. Overall a lovely copy. OCLC locates only one copy issued in wrappers; quite scarce thus.

A genuine and VERY RARE single volume first edition of the second book in Forester's famed Hornblower series published in April 1938, well before the bundled volume: Ship of the Line/Flying Colours.The front title page of the dust jacket has been cut and glued onto the inside (page 2) of the hardcover. Binding is tight, slightly slanted, with cream-coloured inside binding pages. Very clean, slightly tanned pages with light foxing to textblock exteriors. Two light pencil-marked annotations on pages 75 and 239. Unattached giftcard inserted dated Dec. 1938.

Charles Scribner's Sons, 1937. Hardcover. Very Good. First edition, with the letter A on the copyright page; This has a good DJ that has chipping and wear along the top and bottom edges and a couple small tears.

This book is bound with leather covers and a cloth spine. There is a label on the front cover which is not readable. New endsheets have been added at some point in the book's long history, but the original endsheets and covers are present. There is a former owner's inscription on the original front endsheet. Pages are intact and the binding is tight. The book contains black & white drawings of muscles, bones, and bandages. There is an index for medicines and an extensive table of contents of body parts, diseases, syndromes, and treatments. Printed in the year 1846, the book itself is, in essence, a time capsule that portrays how medicine was practiced aboard an early nineteenth century sailing ship. This will make a wonderful addition to the library of the collector of medical memorabilia.

This is the first one volume edition of the reports that were published serially in the Journal of Commerce, at the time. The original paper cover is loose, but easily re-attached. Advertisements interspersed among the daily reports. Internally very good. The first comprehensive account of the Titanic disaster. ( May - July 1912 ). 272 pages. Scarce..
