Smith was a prominent mapmaker in the mid 19th century. In 1843 Smith published a large map of the United States, and three years later in 1846 he published the first edition of this map. Considered a really good map, it basically covers the eastern and midwestern part of the U.S. California and Oregon are featured in an inset, and part of Texas is also shown. Some railroad and canal routs in the northeast are also highlighted. Ristow: American Maps.
