About This Item
Pamphlet, 8vo, removed, half title, 31 pp. Expected nicks on spine, a little staining or soiling on covers, slight foxing and aging; otherwise very good. This is a presentation copy, which is signed "From the Author 1821" on the title page. Renwick (1792-1863) was an English born U.S. engineer and educator. He graduated from Columbia, and appears to have been a highly respected authority in engineering and science. he made important contributions in canal and railroad building, and had some involvement in the steam engine. The title page indicates he was a professor of natural and experimental philosophy at Columbia College. His son, James Renwick Jr., would become a famous architect, and would go on to design St. Patrick's Cathedral. ANB.
