WiTH A LENGTHY INSCRIPTION SIGNED BY ISRAEL HOROVITZ - Octavo, pictorial green boards illustrated in black & green with a yellow printed label on the front cover. The binding is lightly soiled. There are small areas of staining to the head & tail of the spine & the adjacent corners of the covers. There is a small tear to each joint. 72 pages. The gutters are slightly darkened and there are small areas of light staining to the bottom edges of the pages. Illustrated with profuse black-and-white drawings & vignettes. Good. <p>Inscribed by playwright Israel Horovitz on the front endpaper, continuing on the front pastedown. "Gloucester, / 11.2.84 / Dear Franklin, / I came across this 1st Night present for you, long before anyone learned their lines, long before I finished my revisions, &c., & c.,Therefore, I ANTICIPATE a fine old time for all of us -- and I ANTICIPATE a deep heartfelt need to say 'Thank you. Well done.' / Yrs. / Israel Horovitz. / P.S. If, between 11.2.84 and our 1st Night, 11.3.84, our mutual ship, uh, sinks, keep the book. I.H. / P.P.S. Keep the book, anyhow. / I.H. / 21.3.84".<p>There are two color stamps depicting the author at work, one on the endpaper and one on the pastedown.<p>Israel Horovitz [b. 1939] is an American playwright, director and actor. He has written more than seventy produced plays, many of which have been translated and performed in more than thirty languages worldwide. Among the best known are "Line", "Park Your Car in Harvard Yard", "The Primary English Class" and "The Indian Wants the Bronx", for which he won an Obie and which featured two as yet undiscovered future film stars: John Cazale and Al Pacino. Horovitz is the Founding Artistic Director of the Gloucester Stage Company in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He created this theatre in 1979 and served as its Artistic Director for twenty-eight years. He also founded the New York Playwrights Lab in 1975 and serves as its Artistic Director.
