About This Item
London: Gollancz, 1953. A first edition, first printing published by Gollancz in 1953. A very good+ book with one name to the front pastedown and to the corner of the ffep. Some browning to spine ends. A very solid copy without marks, stains or inscriptions. In a dust wrapper which is unclipped and has benefitted from some restoration to the spine and corners. Creasing to the top edge has also been smoothed and repaired. Currently the only copy of the first UK edition for sale a very rare book which was reprinted by the bucket load by Gollancz in the following years.
Synopsis
Even though Ralph Ellison's novel Invisible Man is sometimes featured on banned books lists, it remains a consistent staple on many high school reading curriculums. In the novel, Ellison laments the feeling of hopelessness and invisibility that many Black men experience in the United States, and it elegantly explores the themes of racism and bigotry in ways that are both unsettling and accessible.
