About This Item

Random House, 1952. This is the Author's first book, and a winner of the 1953 National Book Award. This hardcover book is Very Good Plus, being square and tight. The boards and spine have no wear with bold and bright lettering; save the lettering has minor losses as is common in this title. There is very mild (attractive) tone to the upper spine. The pages and endpages are clean, with no markings or folds. The dustjacket is Good, with rubbing and small losses to the points, minor tears and losses to the edges and extremities at the lower spine, a triangular shape chip from the upper spine ending at the "V" in the title, and mild scratches on the rear panel. Having said that the dustjacket is still attractive and now protected in mylar. Original Price of $3.50 is intact. Not ex-lib. No remainder mark. This is a stated First Printing.. HARDCOVER. Collectible; VG. First Edition.

Synopsis

Even though Ralph Ellison's novel Invisible Man is sometimes featured on banned books lists, it remains a consistent staple on many high school reading curriculums. In the novel, Ellison laments the feeling of hopelessness and invisibility that many Black men experience in the United States, and it elegantly explores the themes of racism and bigotry in ways that are both unsettling and accessible.
