Very good plus. Senate Journal, 13th Congress, 3rd Session, 1814. First edition (not a reprint). A primary feature of interest in these Journals is the Presidential Message given to Congress at the start of each Session. Madison's message is devoted entirely to news of the war with Great Britain (War of 1812). Also on page six Madison discusses Congressional relocation after destruction of the Capitol. (Kind of puts things in perspective.) Condition: No boards. Book has blue paper wraps. Text block is sewn and sound and complete including 2 leaves of blank endpapers both front and back. Book is in excellent condition considering lack of boards. My opinion is that book was never bound and looks much as it did straight from the printer. Blue paper wraps are more recent. No interior markings, tears or blemishes. Usual toning consistent with age. I also located a brief discussion regarding the purchase of Thomas Jefferson's library in order to begin rebuilding the Library of Congress which had just been burnt to the ground. Pretty good stuff. Please see scans of the book you will receive.

Description:
1780 softcover pamphlet in very good condition. Paginates: (iii)-viii, [2], (9)-101, blank, lacking the half-title (if it ever existed). Second edition. Pencil notes of prior book seller on title page, no other markings, creases or interior problems. Bound in quality laid paper wraps. A very nice copy. The paper is wonderful example of the paper making trade in 1780's London. Content is scathing satire and complaints about, among other things, the loss of the colonies. A nice copy. Please see scans of the item you will receive. Notes: This title may be found in the libraries of Thomas Jefferson & Benjamin Franklin. More Notes: This is how most books came from the printer and it was up to the buyer to decide on further binding. This appears to have never been bound.

Description:
First edition, four volumes, 1909-1920, Washington. Overall very good condition in original bindings. Notable for the complete absence of library or ownership markings. The only marking I can find is an old pencil note on the front blank of volume 3. Includes bound in errata slips and a promotional leaf for the series laid in. The boards have some dings to the corners. Volume 3 has the most condition issues: shows the most outer wear with some stains on the edges and wear on spine and boards (see scans). Bindings are all sound, which I expect can be an issue with this heavy set. A quite decent usable set. Please see scans of the books you will receive.

Description:
1874 second Canadian edition. Hardcover volume recently recased using original boards and spine, original blanks retained. Paginates: blanks, xii, 304, [26], 12 unpaginated plates, blanks. Complete as issued. Pagination differs from US editions for several reasons: there is a preface to the Canadian edition, 26 pages of ads, and text was reset using a fancier broader font, hence the increased number of pages. Text is the same. Overall condition is Very Good: Interior condition of text and plates is mostly spectacular with minimal foxing or evidence of use, binding is sound, old pencil initials of owner on dedication page, minor foxing to frontis. There is old water injury affecting mostly the ads in back (see image) but injury does not affect text or plates. Two leaves of ads are torn and missing about one quarter. Has stamp "U.N.B. Library" (University of New Brunswick?) on top and bottom edges but no other library markings. One of the most well known captivity narratives. See Howes K62; Rader 2153;… Read More

1883 edition. Original full leather. Condition is Good: Front board professionally reattached, back board hinge reinforced. Spine leather shows loss and old repairs distant past. Text block is sound, boards stablized. Interior is very good: No interior writing, folds, smudges or other evidence of use. There is rare foxing. Rough on the outside excellent on the inside. Full leather binding is uncommon. Paginates: blank, frontis, title, (9)-548, blank. 16 color plates including the frontis. Complete as issued. See Howes B927; Rader 532; Adams Six-Guns 314; Graff 467. Feel free to inquire. Please see images of the book you will receive. Notes: book is packed with illustrations which is best feature. Adams notes there is more myth than history here (which you can pretty much tell from the pictures). True first is 1881.

First edition, hardcover, Syracuse, 1854. Green blindstamped cloth, gilt spine titles. Overall condition is Good: boards show moderate general wear, most at spine tips. Binding is sound. Spine is sun faded. Interior has ancient owner's name on front blank, a few stray pencil marks. Foxing is present is intermittent with most at front and back. Paginates: frontis, vi, 375 Field 324. A collectible book in like condition. Please see images of the book you will receive. Notes: Author is known for his scholarly writing on the Onondaga. This volume is his collection of stories from the native American peoples and early settlers of the Northeast. These reside at the intersection of history and myth. A talented writer and story teller. Recommended.

Description:
This is complicated so bear with me. This is a sammelband (collection) of four titles from the publisher Muir. Listed in order of binding: First title "Life of Thomas Paine" (1833) is not attributed but appears to be abridged Sherwin's biography of Paine (See OCLC: 933006301). Second title "Rights of Man" (1833) requires no explanation. Next two titles written by Peter MacKenzie are rare and make up most of the value. Third title "Exposure of the Spy System" is the 1832 first edition of this work. Includes frontis of Hardie's grave. The fourth (final) title "Trial of James Wilson" is the 1832 first edition. The whole thing paginates: 48, viii, 104, [2], 242, 48. Bound in high quality quarter leather with marbled boards fine binding by Starr Bookworks. Defects are: page 21/22 of "Rights" has a repaired hole affecting a few words (see scan); list of Paine's works has some check marks; title page of "Spy" has small edge tear not affecting anything. Feel free to inquire. Please see scans of the book you… Read More

This book is in good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, spine, edges and corner of the cover. There is some dog-earring on the right corner pages of the book. The pages are white, crisp and clear of any markings. "This is a history of the visual arts produced in the geographical area that now constitutes the United States. Such a book is difficult to title. A History of United States Art sounds awkward and logically might even be construed to exclude the arts of the colonial period. Thus, with apologies to our northern and southern neighbors, I use the title A History of American Art, knowing full well that the terms America and the United States are not synonymous...." - Preface from A History of American Art

This book is in good condition. There is a lot of wear on the front, back, spine and edges of the cover boards. There is also a substantial amount of staining on the cover boards. The pages are yellowed and tanned. There are also markings throughout the book. "The roots of this book reach back to the early 1950s in Paris, where I began my professional career as a journalist. France, supported by the United States, was then fighting to retain its hold in Indochina against the Vietminh, the Communist-led nationalist movement there. As I reported on the French end of the war, I soon became acquainted with the names and places in Vietnam from a distance, But I scarcely imagined that they were to be part of my own experience. Then, in 1959, I was assigned to cover eastern Asia; the region that included Vietnam became my beat for more than two decades. I visited Vietnam most recently in 1981 for seven weeks, the longest permitted an American correspondent since the Communists gained control of the entire… Read More
