Of the numerous publications occasioned by the Kansas-Nebraska act, and the westward movement it instigated, the first, the most authoritative, and the longest was the 256-page study, Kanzas and Nebraska, by Edward Everett Hale, compiled in the summer of 1854, and published September 28, 1854, by Phillips, Sampson & Co., Boston." Table of Contents was photographed for your review. This first edition in such beautiful condition belongs in your Westward Migration, Kansas / Nebraska, Emigrant history library. Sections on Indian tribes, emigrant aid companies, Chinese emigration from California, the railroad, and fugitive slaves.
Condition: This original 1854 first edition hardcover is 100% original, right down to the rare fold out map in the front. Impressed covers are nice, and the gilt on the spine is aged but good. Top and bottom spine show expected wear. Nice secure binding with no tears within! There are some smudges within the text, but they do not affect readability and are only scattered, not throughout.
