Boston: James R. Osgood, 1872. First edition. Hardcover. Good + overall. Account of the naval career of a grandson of Paul Revere who served in the Civil War, with a CDV of Revere in uniform with many medals, laid down at the front. Joseph Warren Revere (1812 - 1880) served as a Brigadier General in the New Jersey Volunteer Infantry who fought at the Battle of Chancellorsville .
This work is a sequel to his "Tour of Duty in California," describing the California conquest; his part therein; his appointment as U.S. agent in California; the gold discovery; San Francisco; the diggings; etc. A carte de visite of Revere fixed in the front. The spine is very sunned & ruffled at the top and bottom. Gilt design on the front cover of guns, swords & spears, which is blind stamped on the back cover. Gilt title & design on spine. Previous owners name in pencil on ffep, foxed early prelims incl. title, less so throughout. Sml. 8vo, (13), 360pp. Original maroon cloth. Cowan p. 530. Graff 3473. Dornbusch N.J. 31.
