Signed by Donald Hall on the title page, with a typed letter signed (TLS) from Donald Hall to poet Frances Hall laid in alongside the poems "On Reaching the Age of Two Hundred" by Donald Hall and "Things" by Jane Kenyon. The poems are written in calligraphy on large sheets and folded (presumably for mailing), each is inscribed by the respective poet to Frances Hall. The 14th Poet Laureate of the United States, Hall (1928-2018) was considered one of the major American poets of his generation, whose work explores the longing for a more bucolic past and reflects his abiding reverance for nature. "Kicking the Leaves" was written shortly after Hall's marriage to Kenyon, to whom this book is dedicated, and the couple's move to Eagle Pond Farm, his grandparents' former home in Wilmot, New Hampshire. Octavo. Original brown cloth binding, with gilt stamping. The top edge is foxed, with some mild spotting to the fore-edge and bottom edge. The dust jacket is price-clipped, and a trifle browned along the spine and folds; else very good.
