About This Item
NY: The Century Co., 1916. First Edition. Interesting signed presentation from Kelly on the front endpaper: "For Ransfira (?) Beach- in memory of a certain engagement in which he came gallantly to the defense of the author- who needed it. Eleanor Mercein Kelly-." Eleanor Mercein Kelly [1880-1968] was an American writer best-known for her romantic fiction, most set in exotic locales. Born in Milwaukee, she traveled widely and used her experiences as inspiration for her novels. After her marriage to Robert M. Kelly in 1901, she settled in Louisville, Kentucky- an environment that inspired her to write. This title, her uncommon second novel, is one of three novels featuring Kentuckian characters and settings. Early books autographed by Kelly are uncommon. Small 8vo., green cloth, stamped in orange and light-green; 435 pages.. Frontispiece by Alonzo Kimball. Ver Good (covers & spine bright with minor wear & few very faint, small stains; contents clean & tight). A nice copy!
