Tolstoi first published "The Kreutzer Sonata" in 1889; it was immediately censored in Russia and then in the United States (but that was soon overthrown). This is a Very Good copy of a Later Printing. Red cloth binding, decoratively stamped with a Russian eagle that is filled with black and yellow; titling in black on spine and front cover. Clean text; 397 pages, with four pages of ads in the rear. Contains five other stories: "Sonata," "Ivan the Fool," "A Lost Opportunity," "Polikushka," and "The Candle." Although bearing the 1890 copyright date, this is a photoplay edition, with a frontis still from the 1915 film version starring Theda Bara. Rubbing to the margins; the spine has faded to a pink colour. No dustjacket.. Later Printing. Decorative Cloth. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
