Description:
New York: New York Public Library & Readex Books, 1975. First edition. Hardcover. Fine copy/fine. Large 8vo. Cloth. Pp. xvi, 362. Index and biographical index. Edited by Miriam J Benkovitz This is a remarkable feat of scholarship, with notes and biographical detail which are lively and thorough. Aldington wrote these letters to his collaborator at Oxford, Alan Bird, when he was researching the life of T. E. Lawrence. The book he wrote eventually, Lawrence of Arabia, A Biographical Enquiry, created a storm when it was published because it disputed the heroic stories which had been in large part invented, or at least mythologized, by Lawrence himself. Aldington's letters here have been scrupulously edited by Miriam J. Benkovitz who has included detailed notes which thoroughly identify the people and events involved.

Description:
John Lehman, London, 1952. First edition, UK. Condition: Very good in good dust jacket. Book has light toning, unobtrusive previous owners name in ink on last page, slight bumping at corners and spine. Dust jacket has edge wear and creasing, dust shadow and light soiling on rear cover, tears at top edge, price clipped. Blue-gray cloth, with titles stamped in maroon on spine. In Let It Come Down, Paul Bowles plots the doomed trajectory of Nelson Dyar, a New York bank teller who comes to Tangier in search of a different life and ends up giving in to his darkest impulses. Rich in descriptions of the corruption and decadence of the International Zone in the last days before Moroccan independence, Bowles's second novel is an alternately comic and horrific account of a descent into nihilism.

Denver: Alan Swallow, 1964 First printing of the first edition. Signed by Samuel French Morse directly on the title page; additionally, French wrote the following inscription on the front-free endpage: "For Bill Kienbusch / who is often / 'Colloquial as August when we're / here' / June 1965 / Sam"

American artist, William Austin Kienbusch (1914-1980), a magna cum laude graduate of Princeton, was best known for his semi-abstract landscapes of Maine. Representations of his work are on exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C.

Morse finished his inscription to Kienbusch using the first line of the last stanza from the concluding poem for this volume: "A Poem in Praise of Hancock Point," p.91. (The referenced poem was also included in Morse's, The Collected Poems, 1995.)

The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process.
