About This Item
Complete two volume set in the original gilt decorative stamped green buckram cloth binding. Tight bindings, Unmarked texts. Books are written in English. Each volume large Quartos. Volume I: xii+162 pp. 37 stamped Full-page plates, and 55 line-drawings and figures illustrating the text. Volume II: Unpaginated + 40 collotype plates by Ogawa Kazuma, each accompanied by a leaf of descriptive text. Corners of both volumes bumped, minor wear to the spine ends, with discoloration and wear through of the cloth in places.
Josiah Conder (1852-1920) was the first to introduce "western" style architecture in Japan as well as introduce Japanese garden architecture to the rest of the world.
Ogawa Kazumasa, also known as Ogawa Kazuma or Ogawa Isshin, was a Japanese photographer, printer and publisher who was a pioneer in photomechanical printing and photography in the Meiji era.
