New York: Robert Miller Gallery, 1982. First Edition. Softcover. Very good. Small quarto, [16]pp., plus 15 leaves of color plates. A very good copy in the publisher's printed wraps, with some scuffing to the base on the rear panel. Contents clean and bright. A marvelous example, SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Krasner on the title page in an aged hand, and dated on the first day of the exhibition: "For Alan, Lee Krasner 10/26/82." Krasner autographs (those not on her valuable paintings and lithographs) are elusive, and this one was clearly procured on one of the few days where she could be expected in polite company to sign an exhibition catalog. Krasner, who had been married to fellow Abstract Expressionist painter Jackson Pollock, died less than two years after this exhibition.

Description:
London: George Sawbridge, 1668. 1668. Illustrated with six plates plus woodcut illustrations within the text, small octavo, pp (ii), 102, some browning and thumbing throughout with general signs of use, the occasional very early small manuscript note, the last two pages with slight wear to the margins and minor neat paper repairs, early manuscript figures and small scribbles on the blank surface of the final page. Lacking a large corner of pages 65/66, and replaced with a paper repair; the text has been copied in manuscript, and the missing portion of the maze parterre has been very carefully copied and is barely noticeable apart from the different paper colour (see images). Neatly bound in a fairly modern full calf, small raised bands and red morocco label. [When first published in 1617/1618 this was the first gardening book intended for the conditions of the North of England, and the Country Housewife's Garden the first English gardening book for women.]. Full-Leather. Good.

Bath, London & Edinburgh: S. Hazard; Cadell & Davies; Creech, 1799. Two volumes, not illustrated, octavo, pp xxxii, 768, [25], edges untrimmed, some foxing throughout though irregular (many pages completely clean), otherwise very bright and unmarked, with the contemporary signature of Theresa Turner on both title pages, a badly cracked hinge in the introductory pages to the first volume though without causing any obvious weakness, original blue boards slightly marked and worn, rebacked with original paper spines and labels re-laid, now a little worn and marked and with only a few pieces missing. A remarkable copy, largely in its original state. Blanche Henrey 1157. [The work is extremely rare, seldom even appearing at auction. The first edition was published anonymously, this second edition was published in the same year. Lady Murray may have been influenced in her botanical interests by her father and brother, both of them Dukes of Atholl who planted extensively at Dunkeld and Blair.].… Read More
