L'opera è composta da tre tomi legati insieme ed è completa. Il nome ed il culto di Santa Filomena nacquero con il ritrovamento nel 1802 di alcune ossa all'interno di una lapide nelle Catacombe di Priscilla a Roma. Per un errore di interpretazione nell'iscrizione della lapide Santa Filomena venne considerata martire, poi tolta dal calendario negli anni 1960. Nel 1805 il Canonico de Lucia richiese delle reliquie dai resti rinvenuti nel Maggio 1802 (ormai ridotti a polvere e frammenti) per la costruzione di un nuovo altare nella sua chiesa a Mugnano del Cardinale.<BR>I resti, trasportati da Roma a Napoli arrivarono a Mugnano l'11 Agosto.
