About This Item

New York: Brentano's, 1906. Very Good. New York: Brentano's, 1906. Two volumes. Octavo; Vol. I xxx + 360pp.; Vol II 387pp including index. Both volumes half-bound in brown leather with gilt seams front and back; spines with (pseudo) raised bands and gilt stamping. J.W. Meyer & Co. binding signature on verso of front free endpaper top edge. Gilt top edge of text block; deckle-cut fore-edge. Some unopened index pages. "Forty Original Portraits and Views Illustrating His Life" in sepia with pasted-in protective tissues. Faux-marbled endpapers.

Solid joints and hinges. Slightly rubbed leather edges. Two gift inscriptions in ink on flyleaf, the first from 1918, the second (a regift from grandfather to granddaughter) in 1962.

Cellini's racily exaggerated memoirs in John Addington Symond's famous translation (at once floridly cosmopolitan and archly euphemized) with Symond's explanatory notes.
