About This Item
12mo, original blindstamped green cloth, spine lettered in gilt, illustrated with steel-engraved portrait of Fremont and 13 wood-engraved plates, 356 pp. Spine ends rubbed and frayed, corners a bit bumped, wood-engraved plates darkened, frontispiece foxed; otherwise very good plus. This copy seems to be a variant issue, with Upham's name on the title page, but lacking the appendix. Wagner-Camp indicates it should be included in the later issues that bear his name; and also includes an extra plate (Head Waters of the Sacramento), which is present in this copy. One of the plates is a portrait of Kit Carson, who is mentioned in the text. Wagner-Camp 282
