New York: G.P. Putnam, 1864. Hardcover. Edited by Pierre M. Irving. Complete 4-volume set. Small 8vo. Quarter calf spines with raised bands and gilt lettering and marbled paper over boards. 463pp, 492pp, 403pp, 450pp. Frontispieces, marbled endpapers and page edges. Very good. Mild occasional edgewear and bit of scuffing. A tight, most handsome early set of this quartette compiled by Irving's nephew -- this set in handsome custom binding done for Wisconsin civic leader JAMES M. LYNCH, chief clerk at the Adjutant General's Office during the Civil War, appointed quartermaster general in 1865.
